Status of salmon - The annual meeting on the status of salmon populations and the outlook for ocean and river fisheries takes place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sonoma County Water Agency, 404 Aviation Blvd., Santa Rosa. Hosted by the state Department of Fish and Game, information gathered from the public will help California representatives negotiate the broadest range of season alternatives at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting later in March. Big game banquet - Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's Central Valley Chapter presents its annual Big Game Banquet at the Ripon Community Center, Locust and 4th Sts., Ripon. Valley waterfowl - The 4th annual Valley Waterfowl Sportsman's Dinner at Chardonnay Hall at the Grape Festival Grounds, 400 E. Lockeford St., Lodi. Donation: $65 adults, $45 juniors. Fly fishing for bass - Jerry Neuburger presents "Do It Yourself Fly Fishing for Delta Largemouth Bass" at 7 p.m. at John R. Williams School, 2450 Meadow Ave, Stockton. Neuburger will cover the four seasons of bass angling, successful fly patterns and how to fish them, and Delta locations to fish from a float tube, pontoon boat, kayak or canoe. Spring trout derby - Rancho Seco Lake hosts its 15th annual two-day trout derby, with cash prizes from $50 to $100 for the heaviest fish. Hours: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 160-acre lake is located at 14440 Twin Cities Road, approximately 15 minutes east of Highway 99. Entry fee: $3. Vehicle parking is $5 ($4 for seniors).
