Wolf report: states take over
#1
With the removal of wolves in the Northern Rocky Mountains from the federal endangered species list, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is no longer compiling the wolf weekly.

The states of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming are going to try to keep the wolf weekly going as individual states. In the past reporting has been on livestock incidents, major wolf management, outreach and monitoring information by wolf program staff, and other information of significance dealing with wolves.

Idaho's weekly wolf reports, in addition to other wolf information will be posted on the Idaho Fish and Game Website http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/wildlife/wolves/.

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission adopted the Idaho Wolf Population Management Plan on March 6. The plan would govern wolf management when the delisting takes effect. Commissioners are expected to set seasons and rules for wolf hunts in May.

The management plan and Idaho's annual wolf recovery report also are available at the Fish and Game Website: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/wildlife/wolves/.

The Northern Rocky Mountain progress report for 2007 for Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and past weekly and annual reports are available at:
