Volunteers Sought for Sun River WMA Fencing
#1
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking volunteers for help building a mile and a quarter of jackleg fence on the east side of the Sun River Wildlife Management Area. "Now is the time for all those folks who said last year they would help to step up," says Mark Schlepp, WMA manager.

<br>Volunteers are welcome to help 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 28-June 1. Schlepp's crew has already built about 3 miles of the fence.<br>

<br>Last year, in a series of public meetings, FWP took comments from the public about rebuilding the WMA's perimeter fence. Many people spoke up in favor of the more visually appealing wooden jackleg fence rather than metal T-posts and barbed wire, even though jackleg fences are more costly and labor intensive.<br>

<br>Volunteers should gather each morning at the southeast corner of the WMA by the administrative cabin.<br>

<br>"Volunteers should bring a lunch and something to drink, along with gloves, fencing pliers, hammers, wire stretchers, pick-up trucks and flatbed trucks and trailers," Schlepp says.<br>
