[#000000]Great Lakes temperature map[/#000000]

Anglers report seeing fish on the beds in some of the inland lakes, but others are still waiting. The shallow lakes will warm faster than the deeper lakes. Bass and bluegills spawn from late spring to midsummer when the water temperature is at least 60 degrees.

Southeast Lower PeninsulaLake Erie - Walleye are moving from the river into the lake. Fair to good action was reported out by the Dumping Grounds. Purple and gold crawler harnesses were the ticket. Perch fishing has been hit or miss depending on whether or not anglers can find a school of fish. White bass are still being caught.
Huron River - The occasional steelhead is still being caught at the dam and the white bass are still hitting.
Detroit River - White bass fishing is still hot! Boat and shore anglers fishing off Ecorse and Wyandotte are still getting their limits. Minnows, crawlers and rubber worms are working best.
Harbor Beach - Boat anglers report large amounts of algae in the water from Sanilac to Port Austin. This is most likely due to strong winds stirring up the lake all the way to the bottom in shallower depths. Try fishing just off the bottom in deeper waters. Good bass fishing in the harbor.
Port Austin - The fish are scattered so try going deep 140 to 160 feet of water and trolling near the bottom. Good bass fishing in the harbor.
Saginaw Bay - Very good walleye action reported from a variety of locations including Gambil's Marina near Pinconning, Linwood, Callahan Reef, and the Slot north of Quanicassee and west of Sebewaing. Depths vary with location, but crawler harnesses are the ticket at all locations. Good bass fishing in the marinas and good catfish action in the Hot Ponds. Bass were caught off the pier at Caseville.
Tittabawassee River - Still has good walleye fishing near Center Road, Gordonville Road, and Imermen Park. Lots of white bass have also been caught.
Sebewaing River - Bass fishing has been very good.
Pigeon River - Has good pike fishing.

Southwest Lower Peninsula
St. Joseph - Boat anglers are catching good numbers of chinook and coho when trolling in waters 200 feet or deeper. Pier fishing has been slow.
South Haven - Anglers are starting to catch perch while still-fishing with minnows just off the bottom in 40 to 60 feet of water. Boats trolling in 140 to 200 feet of water are catching chinook and coho.
Grand Haven - Boat anglers have been catching fish on spoons in 200 to 300 feet of water with downriggers set 75 to 145 feet or deeper. Lead core and copper are also taking fish. Hot colors have been carmel, blue, orange or green. Pier fishing is slow and no word on perch.
Grand River at Lansing - The carp are starting to spawn and some nice fish have been caught along Riverfront Park. Try using corn or floating bread with no weight. Moore's Park is always a good spot to fish as you never know what you might catch
Maple River - Catfish are being caught at quite a few locations along the river.
Muskegon - Boat anglers are trolling spoons in 200 to 300 feet of water. Lead core and copper are taking fish. Hot colors have been carmel, blue, orange or green. No word on perch.
Muskegon Lake - Bluegills and bass are starting to move into the shallows.
Whitehall - Fishing has been slow but it is getting better. Brown trout and lake trout have been caught in shallow waters about 12 feet deep while the chinook salmon were caught in waters at least 200 feet deep.

Northeast Lower
Peninsula Rogers City - Lake trout fishing has been very good with limit catches coming in. Good spots to fish are from Seagull Point, the State Park, Adams Point, Calcite Harbor and Swan Bay. Try 5 to 10 feet off the bottom in 30 to 60 feet of water. Cowbells or dodgers with spin glows worked best but spoons have also caught fish. Hot colors were green, silver, orange and yellow. The salmon are hitting spoons and body baits fished higher in the water column. Extreme caution needs to be used when navigating the waters around the commercial fishing nets. Currently, there are four nets set between the State Park and the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse.
Presque Isle - Anglers are targeting lake trout between the lighthouses, in front of the pavilion, and in the North Bay. Try 5 to 10 feet off the bottom in 30 to 60 feet of water. Salmon have been caught south of harbor towards Stoneport when fishing the top of the water column.
Rockport - Lake trout are suspended about 10 feet off the bottom in 75 feet of water. Those fishing the shallow waters about 12 feet deep have caught lake trout and brown trout. The hot color has been gold.
Alpena - Walleye action is just beginning on the bay with anglers getting hits in 50 feet of water. Lake trout were suspended at 20 feet in 40 feet of water.
Thunder Bay River - Anglers are catching steelhead at the dam when using artificial eggs and flies. A good number of steelhead moved into the river.
East & West Twin Lakes - Water temperatures are still a bit cold and because of it, only a couple walleye were caught when jigging with minnows, crawlers and leeches or trolling with crawler harnesses.
Harrisville - Lake trout action has picked up for those fishing in 60 to 120 feet of water with white or silver spoons. Walleye fishing slowed.
Oscoda - The dredging under the bridge in Oscoda is done and the walleye fishing has started to pick up. Fish averaging 3 to 5 pounds were caught on crawlers under a slip bobber. A few lake trout were caught when bouncing spoons or body baits off the bottom in 45 to 90 feet of water.
Au Sable River - Sulphur mayfly hatches are now underway on the headwaters. Trout fishing has been very good on the South Branch and the mainstream below Grayling and Mio.
Tawas - Trollers were taking walleyes and lake trout out near Buoys 2 & 4, and lake trout out as far as Buoy 6. Pier anglers caught smallmouth bass and northern pike during the day and some walleyes at night.
Au Gres - Walleye action was good when anglers could get out, but the fish are scattered. Good catches reported anywhere from the Gravelly Shoal to the Charity Islands on crawler harnesses in 15 to 40 feet of water.
Higgins Lake - Boats trolling with large cowbells and body baits have caught lake trout in 90 feet of water. A few brown trout have also been caught. Perch can be found on the bottom in 35 feet of water.
Houghton Lake - Bluegills are starting to move into the shallows.

Northwest Lower Peninsula
Petoskey - Fair numbers of lake trout have been caught in Little Traverse Bay when slow trolling with plugs.
Elk Lake - Anglers are targeting lake trout in Spencer Bay and in the south end near the Whitewater Township Park. Most are trolling jigs and stingers in 65 to 125 feet of water. No walleye, northern pike, or bass reports this week.
Elk River - Steelhead were caught at the dam when drifting spawn under a bobber.
Skegemog Lake - Smallmouth bass were being targeted in the southern portions of the lake near the marshy area, around the Torch River and the public access site. Try 5 to 15 feet of water with tube baits, crank baits, jigs, spinners, wax worms or crawlers. Muskie anglers are trolling the Elk-Skegemog narrows, near the Torch River and in the south end of the lake near the marsh. Pike were also caught.
Traverse City - Whitefish have been caught in the East Bay when jigging. Anglers reported excellent lake trout fishing. Those fishing along the shore off Old Mission Peninsula have caught smallmouth bass and lake trout. Carp fishing is just getting started along the east shore and at the tip of Old Mission. Near Elk Rapids, lake trout have been caught south of the harbor and down around the "Humps" when jigging Swedish Pimples. In the West Bay, limits of lake trout and whitefish were taken off Lee Point when jigging.
Big Glen Lake - Some nice rainbow trout were caught on silver rapalas or wigglers around the rocky shallows. Perch are still hitting on wigglers. The bass opener was good with some nice fish caught.
Frankfort - Chinook, lake trout, brown trout and steelhead have been caught in shallow waters 40 to 60 feet deep or in 120 to 200 feet of water. Try spoons or plugs in orange, green or blue. Pier fishing has been slow but some steelhead were caught off the end. Small schools of baitfish were seen in the harbor.
Onekama - Chinook and lake trout have been caught in 160 to 220 feet of water. Most fish were caught offshore, but a few chinook and brown trout were taken up around the Barrel as well. Green and orange spoons, as well as green and white flies have been good baits.
Portage Lake - The bass opener was very productive with excellent numbers of both large and smallmouth caught. Pike were also caught. Walleye are starting to bite during the day.
Manistee - Those targeting brown trout had limited success when trolling in the harbor and around the piers. A few lake trout and chinook were caught in 150 to 200 feet of water.
Manistee Lake - Bluegill are starting to move into the shallows.
Hamlin Lake - The crappie are moving out of the shallows. Some nice bluegills were caught near the drop-offs on the North Arm and walleye off Pete's Bayou. The Bayou's are starting to heat up and produce a good mix of panfish. Bullhead and panfish were caught at Victory Park. Largemouth bass fishing has been very good.
Ludington - Anglers are taking some chinook and lake trout. Those trolling around the harbor have caught brown trout.
Pentwater - Lake trout are being caught but the salmon were few and far between.

Upper Peninsula
Black River - Fishing has been very good for coho, brown trout and steelhead when trolling in 8 to 15 feet of water with body baits.
Ontonagon - Chinook and coho were caught straight out from the river when trolling body baits. Lake trout and steelhead were caught in 40 feet of water.
Ontonagon River - Fishing has been good with some nice walleye caught when trolling crawler harnesses and body baits up the river.
Lake Gogebic - Is producing some nice catches of northern pike in 6 to 10 feet of water. Walleye can be found up near the shoreline one to two hours before dark and one hour after dark. Try a jig with minnows, crawlers or leeches.
Michigamme Reservoir - Walleye are hitting on jigs with minnows.
Keweenaw Bay - Anglers are starting to pick up some chinook, coho, brown trout and lake trout when trolling about 15 to 40 feet down in 30 to 60 feet of water. Fish the head of the Bay, around Sand Point and up to the Old Mission. In Traverse Bay, anglers caught lake trout when trolling in 130 to 165 feet of water out from Big Louie's Point and Gay Point. Try jigging in 160 to 220 feet of water. Near the South Portage Entry, lake trout were caught when jigging in 135 to 240 feet of water near the Mud Banks and Farmers Reef. Chinook and coho were also caught.
Huron Bay - Boats trolling spoons about halfway down in 30 to 50 feet of water have caught chinook and lake trout across from the Witz Marina. Walleye and northern pike were also caught.
Marquette - Lake trout were caught when trolling in 150 to 200 feet of water. A nice brown trout, some coho and a steelhead were caught in the lower harbor.
Chocolay River - Anglers are still catching steelhead.
Menominee River - Has fair to good walleye fishing for those drifting with crawlers. Walleye and smallmouth bass were caught off the Hattie Street Bridge at night, but the action was slow. A lot of anglers are targeting muskie but none were caught. Northern pike and freshwater drum were also been caught.
Cedar River - Walleye have been caught in the evening and right after dark when following the shoreline. The water is clear in the shallows, so those fishing during the day have not caught much. Smallmouth bass fishing was fair. Boat anglers are drifting a crawler and those wading are casting wigglers. No splake or brown trout.
Little Bay De Noc - Most anglers are after walleye but those catching bass are doing well with good catches reported off Garth Point in 8 to 13 feet of water when casting crank baits or plastics. Those fishing near the mouth of the Ford River are drifting or jigging tube baits in 6 to 14 feet of water. Walleye fishing slowed but there were several reports of large fish being caught off the Center Reef. Most are drifting crawler harnesses with bottom bouncers in 18 to 20 feet of water.
Big Bay De Noc - Smallmouth action was hot with many anglers taking limits. Some fish were on the beds but most were caught in 8 to 12 feet of water when casting spinners, crank baits and tubes in South River Bay, Puffy Bay, outside Martins Bay and off Porcupine Point. A good number of fish were in the 16 to 18 inch range. Walleye fishing was fair for those trolling crawlers in 12 to 18 feet of water just north of Kate's Bay.

Cedarville and Hessel - Northern pike fishing is very good in Cedarville Bay, Hessel Bay, Musky Bay, Moscoe Channel and Snows Channel. Try 5 to 8 feet of water with red and white lures. Splake, smallmouth bass and perch were also caught.

Fishing Location: Holland, MI Fishing continues to be excellent with limit catches of king salmon every trip. Fish are coming from 150 to 220 FOW, 140' up to the surface. Magnum glow tape spoons on the deep fish, a variety of regular size spoons higher up. Downriggers with sliders, outriggers, full lead core, dipseys at 60' & 100' are all taking fish. Been running 8 - 12 rods with each rod taking at least 1 hit. No copper wire yet as I'm having a hard enough time keeping the lines from tangling! Surface temperature continues around 50 degrees with lots of bait fish in the area. Should continue good fishing until the water warms up.
