Elk and Antelope Hunters Reminded of 2008 Hunting Season Regulation Changes
#1
Elk and antelope hunters need to keep a sharp eye out for several changes to hunting regulations adopted for the 2008 hunting seasons. Some changes will require archers to apply for permits in hunting districts that may not have required permits in the past.
The deadline to apply for special deer, elk, or antelope licenses and permits is Monday, June 2.

Specific to southwest Montana, general rifle and archery hunters must now apply for unlimited brow-tined bull permits in Hunting District 310 in the upper Gallatin. This does not apply to youth aged 12-15 years old or hunters with a permit to hunt from a vehicle validation.

Other changes in the state call for elk archery hunters in the Missouri River Breaks and 23 other elk-hunting districts in central and eastern Montana to apply by the June 2 deadline.

In addition, antelope archery hunters who seek the early season multi-region "900 Series" licenses are similarly required to apply by June 2 for a license via Montana's annual special drawings.

The move to change several elk- and antelope-archery regulations came in response to concerns about hunter crowding, opportunity inequities between archers and rifle hunters, and hunter-access concerns.

Hunters are encouraged to review the 2008 deer, elk, and antelope regulations before the Monday, June 2 deadline to find out if regulations in your favorite hunting areas have changed.

Hunters can save time by applying online. To apply online, or for more information, visit FWP's at fwp.mt.gov under Hunting and click on Licenses and Permits.
