#1
BILLINGS - This summer's public nature and cultural programs at Pictograph Cave State Park will start this weekend with an evening presentation on snakes and reptiles found in the Yellowstone River Valley.
The "Snakes Alive!" program starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Pictograph Cave State Park south of Billings.

Cat Lynch, a natural history educator and co-founder of Billings-based Mad Science, will present the enlightening program about reptile identification and life styles, as well as the similarities and differences between our region's reptiles.

Participants in the family-based nature program will learn that, while snakes are among the most feared creatures in Montana, our fear comes mostly from superstition and lack of understanding. Snakes really aren't mysterious at all, and these fascinating creatures don't deserve their bad reputation. E xcept for the fear they cause, snakes play an important role in reducing rodents and insect pests.

The program is free. Admission to Pictograph Cave State Park is free for Montana residents; however, however park fees apply to non-residents. For more information, call Pictograph Cave State Park at (406) 245-0227 or the Region 5 Fish, Wildlife and Parks office in Billings at (406) 247-2940.
