I like to use a decent size hook and just use 1 or 2 buckshot weight (oyster weights) and put them about 18-20 inches above the hook. put ur bait on it, cast it near tullies or any brush in the water, and let it sit for a good 30-45 minutes.

if ur using mackerel (best bait Iv'e seen for catfish), only use one buckshot weight- NOTE: I'm somewhat of a new fisherman, and this is just the experience Iv'e had so far. Also this is just for freshwater.

Depending on whether it is a lake or river, I like to use a sliding weight that can vary from 1/2oz to 4oz (depends on current in river). Pair that with a very small splitshot about 18 to 24 inches above the hook.

The hook is usually a 2/0 to 4/0 Circle hook or a Kahle hook of the same size.

The sliding weight is usually important so that the Catfish cannot feel the weight when it takes the bait.

I can set this rig up on a Spinning reel with a Bait Runner feature or on a Conventional reel and leave it in freespool with the bait clicker on.[cool]

You will usually use the bait of your choice for the Kittys in your area.[cool]
