Comments Sought on Clark Fork River Property Acquisition Near Missoula
#1
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking public comment on a proposal to acquire approximately 12 acres of land along the Clark Fork River eight miles northwest of Missoula.
The property consists of two tracts of land. Tract one, located on the west side of the Clark Fork adjacent to the existing Deep Creek Fishing Access Site (FAS), is approximately four acres, and would be donated to FWP. This site would provide additional walk-in access from Deep Creek.

The second tract is across the river from Deep Creek next to the remaining abutment of the old Harper's Bridge. FWP proposes to purchase this eight-acre parcel from a private landowner.

This site would provide key access for floaters on a stretch of the Clark Fork where boat access is currently quite limited. Kona Bridge FAS, four miles upstream, and Petty Creek FAS, 22 miles downstream, are the closest existing public access sites for launching boats on the river. The acquisition would allow the possibility of FWP developing a formal FAS at the site in the future.

To view the Draft Environmental Assessment, go to FWP's website, fwp.mt.gov, and look under "Recent Public Notices" or request a copy by mailing FWP, 3201 Spurgin Road, Missoula, MT 59804; phoning (406) 542-5500 or emailing shrose@mt.gov.

Comments should be directed to Rory Zarling by mail at the address above or can be emailed to rzarling@mt.gov. Comments must be received no later than 5 p.m., July 21, 2008.
