Intruders, Foxy Prawns, and Rock Stars work well for the Kings. All in the 1/0 size.

Glow bugs will also work for the smaller fish.[cool]

I used anything that was ever created or tied by Polly Rosborough. His Babine River Special # 2 was my fav. Once caught a 24" Grayling on it in TikChik Lake one morning with Bob Curtis looking over my shoulder. Polar Shrimp #4 works great too.

We caught a lot of kings on those patterns in the Karluk River (Kodiak Isl) and elsewhere in Alaska.

Using the correct fly rod makes all the difference in the world when it comes to fighting salmon. For these hard-fighting fish, a 7- to 9-weight rod 9' or more in length is ideal. Another essential item when fly fishing for kings is a fly reel with a quality disc-drag system. These fish will take long, powerful runs that spool out plenty of line, so a reel that can handle this type of beating is a necessity
