WILD OUTDOORS - PROGRAMS FOR KIDS IN LIMON AND LAMAR
#1
Kids - Looking for more things to do on your summer vacation? Interested in learning more about wildlife and the out of doors?
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) will hold free kid's programs July 28-29 in Limon and July 30-31 in Lamar.

The programs are geared toward youngsters ages 8-12, and will be held from
9-11 a.m. each day.

Most adults remember their parents telling them to go outside and play. They have fond memories of climbing trees, catching frogs, and spending the summer out of doors.

Children today are growing up with TV, computers, and lifestyles that keep them indoors. Recent studies indicate a 50 percent reduction in the time kids spend outside connecting with nature.

Experts say that spending time playing outdoors is important for a child's physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. In addition, early connections to nature lead to life-long awareness of the world we live in, which in turn reduces stress and enchances creativity and academic growth.

In an effort to reverse the trend to stay indooors, a national effort called "Leave No Child Inside" is prompting partents to get their kids outside to explore, learn about and enjoy the environment.

Children who attend one of the DOW's free "Wild Outdoors" programs will learn about Colorado's wildlife and the natural world outside. They will be able to spend time engaging in hands-on activities discovering nature in their own hometowns.

DOW educators will explore animal's tracks and signs, look for their sources of food, water and shelter, learn about animals the live in water, and with any luck catch a glimpse animals living in their own habitat.

This event is limited to 20 children, so register early. To register, or get more information, call Linda Groat at (719) 336-6608.
