Weekend Fishing Opportunities

* The Buoy 10 fishery should provide anglers a very good opportunity for chinook salmon by this coming weekend.

* For those who want to fish closer to home, tides are favorable for summer steelhead angling in the lower Columbia through early next week.<br />
* Walleye action is heating up in the Troutdale area.

SALMON STEELHEAD AND SHAD

Effort was light in the lower Columbia and in the Buoy 10 fishery this past weekend. Steelhead anglers were most successful in the gorge, where bank anglers averaged 0.51 steelhead caught per rod. Boat anglers in Troutdale averaged 0.43 steelhead caught per boat. Angling for chinook at Buoy 10 improved over the weekend with an average over one fall chinook per boat.

Gorge Bank:<br />
Weekend checking showed 14 adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept and eight unclipped steelhead released for 47 bank anglers.

Gorge Boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed no catch for one boat.

Troutdale Boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed five adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept, and five unclipped steelhead and two chinook released for 23 boats.

Portland to Longview Boats:<br />
Weekly checking showed no catch for six boats.

Portland to Westport Bank:<br />
Weekly checking showed one adipose fin-clipped steelhead kept for 14 bank anglers.

Estuary Boat &amp; Bank (Buoy 10):<br />
Weekend checking showed 70 chinook kept, plus 37 Chinook and four coho released for 86 boats.

Bonneville Pool:<br />
No report.

The Dalles Pool:<br />
No report.

John Day Pool:<br />
No report.

Sturgeon:

Sturgeon fishing is slow in the Columbia River above Wauna power lines. Action should begin to pick up in the Gorge by the end of this month.

Gorge Bank:<br />
Weekend checking showed one oversize and 16 sublegal sturgeon released for 45 bank anglers.

Gorge Boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed one oversize and 17 sublegal sturgeon released for three boats.

Troutdale Boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed 32 sublegal sturgeon released for five boats.

Portland to Longview Bank:<br />
Weekly checking showed eight sublegal sturgeon released for 11 bank anglers.

Portland to Longview Boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed one legal sturgeon kept and 78 sublegal sturgeon released for 35 boats.

Estuary Boat &amp; Bank: CLOSED FOR RETENTION.

Bonneville Pool: CLOSED FOR RETENTION.

The Dalles Pool: CLOSED FOR RETENTION.

John Day Pool: CLOSED FOR RETENTION.

Walleye:

Troutdale boats:<br />
Weekend checking showed 16 walleye kept for seven boats. Walleye are averaging 19-20 inches, with an occasional 5-8 pound fish being caught. Some anglers have reported having luck trolling with spinner/worm harnesses and plugs diving 20 to 25 feet.

BASS:

Bass fishing has been good in the waters below Bonneville dam, with fish hitting on plastic worms and grubs. With temperatures rising, bass are holding in 10-25 feet of water.
