The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced Sunday afternoon the Aug. 19 workshop on federal/state marine fishery management coordination and the "Florida Wildlife: On the front line of climate change" summit on Aug. 20-22 in Orlando at the Rosen PLAZA have been postponed.

"Gov. Charlie Crist has declared a state of emergency for the entire state in preparation for Tropical Storm Fay," said Nick Wiley, assistant executive director of the FWC. "We have determined that the safest course of action regarding our Commission workshop Tuesday and the climate change summit would be to cancel these events and reschedule for a later date."

Wiley said the decision was made to avoid participants and staff traveling during a potentially dangerous time.

"It will allow everyone to focus on preparing for the storm and keeping their families safe and allow the FWC to focus on helping with response to the storm as necessary," Wiley said.

More information on the summit and workshop is available at MyFWC.com. When the threat of the storm has passed, the FWC will reschedule both events.
