Construction at Ackley Lake State Park
#1
A major construction project is occurring on the dam at Ackley Lake State Park this fall and winter, but shoreline fishing and camping are still available throughout the project.

The west side of the park is open to visitors, where they can camp at one of the nine campsites free of charge. Visitors can also fish from the shore of the lake.

Ackley Lake is a grassland park about 20 miles west of Lewistown, just south of Hobson.

The lake has been drawn down significantly for the construction project. Boat launching is not possible due to the lower lake levels, so fishermen must be prepared to walk down to the water.

Park facilities on the east and north sides of the lake are closed to the public during construction, which is expected to continue until early 2009. The project is necessary to make important repairs to the dam and outlet structure, and improve the auxiliary spillways.

It is anticipated that lake levels will be returned to normal for the 2009 recreation season.
