Surf Tournament Sunday at Island Beach State Park
#1
The NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds all saltwater anglers that the annual Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament is this Sunday, Oct. 5 at Island Beach State Park. Walk-in registration is welcome and opens at 5:00 a.m. at Pavilion #1. Fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. and winds up at 1:00 p.m. with the Governor's Trophy and other prizes awarded at 2:00 p.m. There are prizes for eight species in a number of categories (male, female, youth, etc.).

Participants should note that although the regular fluke season closed on September 7, approval was obtained from the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament participants to keep legal sized fluke (8 at 18") on the day of the tournament. Participants are asked to record all fluke catches on a survey form that will be provided when they register for the tournament.

For more information visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/gsft.htm on the division's website. Those not already registered can download the registration form and have it completed ahead of time to speed entry the morning of the event.
