CALIFORNIA DFG TO DEMONSTRATE OBSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR REMOTELY OPERATED VEHICLES IN MONTEREY HARBOR

WHAT: The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) Marine Region will host a special demonstration of its underwater video sampling capabilities with its Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).

WHEN: Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Leave from Fishermen's Wharf, Monterey Harbor aboard the Research/Fishing Vessel Donna Kathleen for sampling beyond the harbor.

WHY: DFG has sampled more than 300 miles of California's coast, and established sampling protocols that allows DFG to assess the effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas on fish abundance and habitat.

WHO: DFG technical staff, scientists and researchers will be available to explain the program, demonstrate the ROV's capabilities and answer questions.

RESERVE SPACE NOW: DFG has room for eight members of the media to board the Fishing Vessel Donna Kathleen to observe the operation and use of theROV actually working on sampling. As space is limited, interested members of the media should reserve a space with the contacts by Oct. 17. Reservations will be on a first come, first served basis. Media members will be expected to show on time, or cancel ahead of time. At time of sail, open spaces will be given to media at the dock.

The weather on Monterey Bay changes frequently and attendees should be prepared for windy/cold conditions.
