CHANGES TO SENIOR FISHING LICENSES
#1
DENVER, Colo. Colorado anglers and small game hunters accustomed to purchasing new fishing licenses each January have until March to get a new license this year. Starting in 2009, Colorado fishing and small game licenses do not expire until March 31.

Senior Citizens will also notice another change. Beginning in 2009, there is a $1 fee for an annual fishing license for Colorado residents over 64. The fishing license is free; however $1 will be collected to meet requirements that anyone who has a hunting or fishing license must pay a 25-cent Search and Rescue fee and a 75-cent surcharge to fund the wildlife Public Education Advisory Council.

"This year's fishing and small game licenses are a real bargain," said Tracy Predmore, a Customer Service Representative with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. "The extra three months means that an '08 license doesn't expire until March 31, 2009 and an '09 license is good until March 31, 2010."

The base price for an annual fishing license for Colorado residents ages 16 - 64 is $26. A small game license is $21. A combination fishing and small game license is $41.

Anglers or hunters who still have a 2008 fishing or small game license can continue to use their old 2008 license until the end of March, 2009.

The ending date was changed to reflect the fact that many small game seasons start in the late fall of one year and continue until early spring of the next year.
