I went to AF the last two days again. It is close to home so I hit it pretty heavy. This year has been a slow one for me on the perch but I keep hoping for those 50-75 fish days like last year. So yesterday I tried a new location and right off the bat I hook two big line strippers and broke both of them off. One was on an ice fly with a wax worm before it got past 10 feet. The other was on a repala ice jig tipped with pink maggots before it got down to 10 feet also. I didn't have my heavy line reels so I couldn't change up. It didn't matter anyway because I couldn't buy a bite after that.
Next week I'm bringing the big stuff and going to try again. My perch reels don't have very good drags and even with a very loose drag I broke off. They both felt like big trout. Disappointing but still fun. Maybe it's time for me to focus on slimers. Not as good to eat but a lot of fun to catch.
