STEELHEAD FISHING REPORT CARDS DUE JANUARY 31
#1
The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) reminds steelhead anglers they are required to return their 2008 Steelhead Fishing Report and Restoration Card by Jan. 31. Failure to return the Steelhead Report Card is a misdemeanor. Information collected from report cards provides DFG with data to monitor and manage California's steelhead populations.

"The information gathered from these cards is critical to maintaining and improving healthy and fishable steelhead populations," said Terry Jackson, coordinator of the Steelhead Fishing Report and Restoration Card Program. "Our goal is to improve California steelhead habitat and populations and to increase steelhead fishing opportunities and success. This requires accurate and complete data from anglers."

Anglers are requested to review their cards carefully and complete the information as accurately as possible.

The Steelhead Fishing Report and Restoration Card is a fishing report as well as a catch report - steelhead anglers record where and when they fished, even if no fish were caught on a given trip. All cards should be returned, regardless of whether or not the angler fished for steelhead. Those who did not fish for steelhead in 2008 are asked to write "did not fish" on the card.

Additional information (including FAQs) is available on DFG's Steelhead Fishing Report and Restoration Card Program Web page:http://www.dfg.ca.gov/fish/Fishing/Monitoring/SHRC/index.asp. Available also on the Web page is a report on the program since 1993. The report includes an overview of steelhead biology and state-wide status, projects funded with steelhead angler dollars, angling data and monthly angling effort and monthly catch for a majority of California's streams. Anglers can also request a copy be mailed to them when they return their Steelhead Fishing Report and Restoration Card.
