im looking for a steel line set up
#1
i want to try trolling for some lake trout on the gorge with steel line. just like the good ol' boys did back in the day. im looking for something that wont cost me too much with line allready on it, if not thats ok. i love jigging for the lakers there, but my dad likes fishing for the kokes. so i thought it would be fun to drag some line on the bottom and try for a laker or two while my dad gets his [fix]. my grandpa gave me a whole box of big flatfish so i have a few to lose to learn the technique in witch im sure youll snag alot lol.... post back our shoot me a pm thanks

[#008000]You might pick one up on Ebay that is already set up for cheap. Or, you could go to Sportsmans and find one there that is specific to that technique (look for a salt water rod with rollers in place of the eyes).[/#008000]

[#008000]Otherwise, just get yourself an old Penn reel and (I have a 209) and some steel line for it. Then, get the stoutest rod you can (Muskey or salt water rods work best) and replace the guides with rollers (especially the tip top) as the eyes will get eaten up quickly by the steel line. [#008000]Also go get some very heavy weights (stream lined if you can) up to 10 oz. (depending on the depth and speed you troll). [/#008000]

[#008000]You should bring along a leather glove as well because your thumb can get chewed up from handling the line.[/#008000]
