pole holder
#1
[fishin]I was fishing at Piute last fall and saw a dandy pole holder. It had a spring on it so when you got a hard strike the spring would release and set the hook. The man using it said someone gave it to him. Anyone seen one like that or know where to get one?

I once designed and made a device that does the same thing, but using the bent pole as the spring. It just has a simple hook-trigger so that a slight tug will pull it loose, the pole straightens out and yanks the line. The trigger was about like the trigger of a Piute deadfall small animal trap.

I have a couple that fit that description, but I am told the guy who made them stopped about 5 years ago. There are other similar models, but the ones I have are great at Powell for catching catfish and strippers from the shore, or when anchored. I can send some picks of the one I got, if you wnated to try and fabricate some.

Sure, but it might take me a couple of days as they are in the boat which is in for service.
