Walleye Tourney
#1
On an earlier posting about the Ausable River there was some interest in a friendly little walleye tournament somewhere between cooke n foote dam

Who's interested? Reply to this posting.

Also include whether you'd rather have this be a friends and family of people on this board only or we should open up to general public as well.

The other option is not to do a tourney at all and we all just meet up for a friendly day of fishing.

So... in short.

Are you interested?
Who gets invited?
Actual tournament or just fun day of fishing?

The date would be April 18th (Opening Saturday)
Location most likely either Orchard Park or Sid Town launches. (I'd prefer Sid Town --- i know more hot spots in that area [Wink] )

Thanks,
Mike

since I would be driving 200 miles, either location would be the same to me, but if you have a spot where you could put me on an eye or two that would be the spot of perfered choice. [:p]

will we have on shore cooks? Since I cant talk Elisa Dusku in to coming along with me on this trip, some one might have to lend me a cook for the day. [:p]

we are talking catch and keep right? I thought the season didnt open till the last saturday in april...

been a while since I fired up the motor, thats only a cople weeks away. are you sure you want to kick it off on such a short notice?

how far from port will you be going to hit the fishing spots? and is it up river or down river of port?

I say keep it to family and friends with a member of the bft web site, not just the board, so you dont have to pull any special permits. "I wouldnt expect any one to fly in a couple thousand miles to win a pat on the back but at least they would be welcome" Just so long as they let us know they are comming before hand so we know to expect them...[cool]

Catch and keep YES (if you want, I know i'll be keepin mine)

I got the date wrong. For some reason I was thinking that the opener was first Saturday after the 15th of April. I'm not availible on the actual opener (last saturday in April)
First availible date for me would be following weekend May 2nd.

I'd vote for a friends and family only day of fun walleye fishing with a few homemade prizes supplied by a few of us here on the board. I'll supply a couple of custom made Walleye Tshirts to the prize pool.

My wifey will be in the boat with me so sorry .. can't loan her out as a "shore cook". We can pack sandwiches etc etc if you need. We will be staying with my mom over the weekend and will only be driving about half hour to get there.

I'd also strongly suggest a fish cleaning / cook out to be held directly after everyone comes in. I can bring coleman stove/ stuff for fire pit etc. (Or we can all just go to Bassss's house and eat all of his walleyes) [Wink]

I'm up for it , family fun sounds good .
I can bring the big camper so Dave can have a comfortable place to rest his bones at night or we can hit deercamp .
I'll check with Roosterfish and see if he can make it .
I'll see what I can dig up for prizes also .

may 2 sounds like a better day, but I may have to check to see if I am scheduled to do the anual 4-H discovery day thing that weekend or the next.

Hey Dave I wasn't trying to impose on your forum function just inviting you guys to come have a good time. As far as inviting more guys to join the forum that's actually a good idea, after all I have joined it and have found alot of great info about fishing around our area that I may have never been in on if it wasn't for this forum. I don't have a problem telling guys were to go to find info and the likes on the web. Most of us fisherman are always looking for things to do and people to talk to about our favorite pastime. Hope you understand I'm not trying to be rude by posting the invite O.K.
Good fishing to all.[fishin]

I wasnt taking you as being rude, by no means, I was just telling you what would happen should the guys here decide to make the switch in plans... nothing is in stone.

I am going to do what ever these guys dicide to do...

But just for the sake of conversation, is your groups plan for going out on the bay? I am limited with a 14 foot row boat and a 15 horse motor. I am not sure I would be comfortable going out on the bay with it... especialy if we get a west wind.

for the sake of others who may be intrested, can you give us a little more info on your event... But might I suggest that you make a seperate thread where we can get the full info with out interupting this thread...

Yes the tournament is in the bay, don't blame you for not wanting to go out in a small boat. I'm runnin a sixteen-foot Larson All American with an old 33 hp Evenrude (antique) and some guys pick at me about going out in that. Thanks for the inquiry, will post new thread about tourney with more rules and such. T.J.B.

'Hey , welcome to the boards !
Last time I was over to Wellman's Bobby Brown was working for them .He still there? I remember he was going for a captains license threw the coast guard course .
Like Dave i'm limited to the smaller lakes and the river with my boat , a 17' flatbottom (more like a canoe) with a short-shaft 9.9 merc .,great river boat for the spring and fall runs .
Looking forward to seeing the new post with the details , maybe we can shoot over for the weigh in and get to meet you guys , sound like a plan ?
By the way , I think it's great that you guys are doing this for them .
Looking forward to more of your posts !

Sorry I don't really know any of the guys at Wellman's by name other than Ross. I go to the Riverstore most of the time, cause he's right on the way. Hope to meet you at the weigh in it's at 3:30 at the state launch in east tawas, you'll have to park at the dock or adjacent parking unless you have a state launch sticker though.

My map of the Ausable (Sid Town & Orchard Park) are burned into my head. It's called hours upon hours in the boat with grandpa. All I have to do is close my eyes and I can see each tree along the shoreline.

My only hangup would be that I havn't fished it in a long time. I'm sure some of the logs and snags have changed a bit, but I can't imagine that the holes and original river bed paths have changed that much.

Should be interesting.

I'll google a river map and highlight a few spots "of interest" for ya.
