#1
All these news items are available free through the Atlantic Salmon Federation's website

The Atlantic Salmon Federation is Saddened by the passing of Dr. Wilfred Carter on March 18. He was a giant in the world of salmon conservation for more than a half century. ASF intends to establish a permanent memorial fund in Dr. Carter's name and honour .He will be missed:

Dr. Carter recognized the importance of solving both international and local river problems, and the effectiveness of watershed-related organizations in addressing issues in their own region. One such group, the Hammond River Angling Association (HRAA) near Saint John, New Brunswick, was recently honoured by ASF as Affiliate of the Year for its outstanding restoration and education work in salmon rivers in southern New Brunswick.

Many local organizations from Connecticut to Newfoundland, including HRAA, take a major role in delivering ASF's Fish Friends program to 680 classrooms. One recent article suggests the excitement and sense of wonder the program brings:

The mystery of Atlantic salmon migration is one of the topics addressed in the Fish Friends program. ASF is gearing up for the 2009 season of research that is making headway in understanding the reasons for increased mortality of salmon migrating to sea. A talk in Campbellton raises some interesting ideas, based on the results from the past four years.
