ADF&G to Study Economic Impact of Sport Fishing in Alaska:
#1
(Anchorage) - The Division of Sport Fish of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has contracted with Southwick Associates to produce updated information on the economic contribution of sport fishing to the Alaskan economy.

The study will estimate the total expenditures associated with sport fishing in Alaska in 2007, as well as the total direct, indirect, and induced economic effects of angler spending. The study will estimate total jobs, wages and salaries, and tax receipts generated from sport fishing activities by residents and non-residents within several regions in Alaska.

The results of the study will be used to ensure that the Division is meeting performance goals and to provide fisheries managers and policy-makers with additional information to evaluate projects, policies and management strategies in light of regional impacts to the Alaska economy. Final results of the study will be published by 2008.

The Division invites interested members of the public to learn more about this study, and public comment is welcome. In addition to accepting written comment, there will be three public "open house" meetings to provide an opportunity to learn more about the study and to provide comment:
