River salmon fishing help needed
#1
I fished the pullayup river in washington three days straight and no salmon caught. I used spin and glows, prawns, eggs, spoons, spinners and flies. And not even a hit from a salmon I was fishing from the bank. I was fishing for Chinook salmon. Can any on tell me a trick they use on lock jawed salmon that might work or what they use on hard fished rivers. Any tip or advice would help thanks.

Hi,
I noted with interest your advising buzz bombs on the rivers here in Washington State. I have used them on the saltchuck and found them to be excellent enticers. But I note that our regulation book insists on our using "bouyant lures' in the rivers. Are you sure that buzz bombs are within that category?

I just caught my first King Salmon bottom bouncing Salmon eggs. We only caught one on a half day trip and the bite wasn't that heavy, probably 25 boats out and 1 maybe 2 Salmon per boat but all the boats that had fish we talked to, were bottom bouncing Salmon Eggs. We fished 15# test with a split swivel running a 7 foot 10# leader off one of the rings and a 1 foot 10# leader off the other with the wieght attached. Even though I put it on another post I just had to throw it up here as well!! Good Luck!
[laugh] How about a good laugh?
http://www.bigfishtackle.com/comics.htm

Mike H
This may be a little late for Chinook salmon but the steelhead are coming up fast here in Michigan.

I like to role my eggs across the bottom of the river.

Fishing off shore or wading I will cast across the river allowing my eggs to role across the bottom down river.

I use an egg sinker just heavy enough to get to the bottom of the river but not heavy enough to stop the current from dragging it down river.

I will cast at different lengths to end up at different distances down river. If I don’t get anything in a minute or two I will recast, hoping that a salmon will spot the rolling eggs.

I do use a 30-pound test backing and 25-pound leader. I do catch the bottom where I fish at from time to time.

Say Mike that sure is a nice fish. Is that about 28 pounds?

http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/MESS6438/
Lookie See what the kids are up to.
Dave T.
