Big Permit in Palm Beach
#1
Fished the other nite and landed a 21 pound permit on a blue crab just off the walls of the Port of Palm Beach at 1:45 am. This is got to be the toughest fighting fish in the waterway that I have ever caught. He makes big snook look like a bunch of sissy's. I was using a Penn int'l 965 loaded with 17 pound trilene xl on a medium action Gold Cup rod (IM6) graphite 7 foot long and after 15-20 minutes landed him off the tip of the new cruise slip terminal. This bugger tried many times to cut me off on the tires up against the walls.
We saw these permit in schools of about 5-10 fish eating all the crabs on the surface of the water. First cast and the fight was on! Cooked him up with onions and hot peppers and it was mighty good.
I have seen these fish up to 40 pounds cruising the walls at night when the tide is high and ready to go out.
I work at Tropical Shipping which allows me to wet a line now and then and working nights makes it worth while.
