Fishery managers set sturgeon season closures
#1
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - The states of Oregon and Washington set season closure dates for white sturgeon retention in the Columbia River above The Dalles and John Day dams.

Recreational fishing will close to the retention of white sturgeon in the John Day Reservoir on April 13 and in The Dalles Reservoir on April 19. Anglers may continue to keep sturgeon caught in those areas seven days a week until the closure dates. Any sturgeon caught after those times must be released unharmed.

The closure dates are based on surveys that showed anglers approaching the annual harvest guidelines for each reservoir established last December.

Fishing for retention of sturgeon will continue in Bonneville Reservoir and in the Columbia below Bonneville Dam as under previously adopted regulations.

Sturgeon anglers are reminded that under permanent rules sturgeon fishing is prohibited in designated sturgeon sanctuaries immediately below Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day dams. Refer to the 2009 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for detailed descriptions of these areas and applicable rules.

More information about fishing on the Columbia River can be found on ODFW's Columbia River Management Web page at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/OSCRP/CRM/index.asp.
