hen or partridge....

was just looking at a fly I might for my upcoming trip and it calls for [#800000][size 2]"Sparse brown hen or partridge" [#000000]f[/#000000][/size][/#800000]
[#800000][size 2][#000000][/#000000][/size][/#800000]
[#800000][size 2][#000000]or the tail and hackle.. can what does hen or partridge look like ? I may have some and not even know it.. :-)[/#000000][/size][/#800000]

There isn't a big difference. I prefer hen on my soft hackles.
Partridge is usually in little bags and full of fluff. You can get a skin though that is much nicer:

Hen is usually a cape:

hmmmmmm Ill have to look in my goody bag and see if I have any.. saw a fly I might want to try tying and it called for either one of those.. Im going to San Diego Fly tomorrow so may see whats what there.. hehehe

You realize a small chest feather off one of those birds will work also for the fly you want to tie.

LOL... true.. maybe Ill have to look for a rooster like that while I am there.... btw.. dont forget that Mrs MacLarry has been picking up stray feathers for me (us) and nuking them and freezing them (previous post).. not sure how much she has but Ill know next week for sure...

Ill check my grab bag and sd fly and see what I can come up with.. never can tell.. [sly]

although in some countries rats are a delicacy .. they are not so in my world.. [crazy] ... kind of one of those different strokes for different folks.. and Im not sure Ive ever seen a fly recipe that called for rat hair.. [laugh]
