Hartford (WTNH) – Gov. Jodi Rell has signed a bill that will impose harsher penalties for intoxicated boaters that cause fatalities.
[/url]The bill calls for longer prison terms, up to 10 years, and increased fines, up to $10,000.
Rell proposed the legislation following the 2007 boating accident in the Connecticut River that claimed the life of a South Windsor woman.
The new law takes effect July 1.
