back from Eastern Sierra
#1
Hello everyone.[Smile]
So, Im back from eastern Sierra fishing trip (four days).
The weather was, well what can I say-all over the place. From sunny and worm to freezing and windy. But
thats just a part of going up there in october. It got so
cold that I had to dip my fly rod in water just to deice it.
Fishing was good (full moon dont help). Im use to GREAT
fishing up there but this time it was just good.
My fist fish was a fat 18'' bow on lake Convict float tubing
on olive Matuka. That was a lot of fun on a 5wt.
After that it was the normal one footers or so. Next day
I was told about this local pond by local fly shop after
I told them that I also like ff for bass and bluegill. Boy
that was fun !!! Nobody float tubes this pond. There is
a island in the middle . I was fishing the other side of that
island where there is zero shore access. Many nice
bluegills and mid. size bass. This pond is a must on my
list from now on, every time I go up there[Smile].
Next day the wind really picked up in mountains so I went
back to the fly shop to ask them about fishing the Owens
river which I have never fly fished. They geve me a quick
how to and I was on my way. Told me this is not the best
time because of the huge water flow but try.
I found some nice place on the river with deeper, slower
water and gave it a go. Some time into it I caught a small
wild trout [Smile]. First ever FF in the river ! Boy, that was
something. I screamed like a little girl ! I was so happy.
Well I cought two more and it got dark so it was time
to go.
Did little more of float tubing and river fishing on my
last day and made my way home.
I just love going up there in October. Nice fall colors, no
people, great fishing and just get away ............

Eastern Sierra is all about exploring. Hundreds of lakes,
creeks, big "O" , ponds, rivers.........................
Live time of exploring for sure [Smile].
I have been going up there for years now and there
is still so much that I have not seen or even heard about.
Thats one of the things that I love about the place.
But I tell you one thing- talking to the guys in local
fly shops will help you a lot. They sure know they stuff.

Yes, that is the back side of the pond. 3wt or 4 wt would
be great but watch out there is some big bass in there as well.
I seen some bass busting the top water and it was BIG.
I was wishing that I had my sage bass rod
with me[Wink]. Next time ! So watch out Mr. bass - Im coming for you......................[Smile]

Well, it was like 500 fps flow of water. I guess 180-250
is much better over there. But hey, I caught some fish.
For the most part it was about getting "my feet wet".
I sure like the river FF now. I cant wait to go back
when the water flow is better. There are some
Huge brown trout in it. Also some bass lower
in the valley.
I think next time I will get a guide to drift the river if I can
get someone to split the cost with me.
