Narragansett Bay is home striped bass
#1
Rhode Island has is home to some of the most productive fishing waters on the East Coast. Narragansett Bay is a marine sanctuary that is home to significant fishing grounds. In the spring, blue-back herring flood the bay. Following the herring come striped bass, fierce and hungry after a long winter in Chesapeake Bay or along the Hudson. The fishing is awesome with live herring or umbrella rigs. Around the middle of June the fish head out to deeper waters , then the tube and worm or leadhead jigs work best. There are huge bass along Brenton Reef , every year large fish are taken. The is the time of year that a trip to Block Island or Cuttyhunk can be very productive. Around mid-July the bluefish arrive in force. Like a marrauding army they come to plunder all the bait that the Bay has to offer. If you have not been in a bluefish blitz it is something you will not soon forget. These ocean paranha put up one fantastic fight and will tire you out. In the fall come the migrating stripers, nice and fat in preparation for the trip to the winter grounds. They are feeding all the time and on the move. In the late fall the schoolie stripers and bluefish are hitting the peanut bunker hard. The ultimate time to fish, if you like to cast poppers. Rhode Island is blessed with some of the finest fishing on the East Coast.
