Pre-spawn bass may command FLW Series pros attention
#1
EUFAULA, Ala. (Feb. 24, 2010) - The FLW Series will visit Lake Eufaula in Eufaula, Ala., March 10-13 for the second stop of the Eastern Division circuit. Hosted by the Eufaula Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, the tournament will feature as many as 300 top bass anglers casting for top awards up to $50,000 in the Pro Division and a Ranger 177TR with a 90 horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard in the Co-angler Division.

"I really like fishing Eufaula because it's got a lot of quality fish in it and you can fish options, whether it's clear water or kind of muddy water," said Team National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala., who has won more than $411,000 in FLW Outdoors competition. "There's a lot of grass down there, and I think that's what everybody's going to be targeting. I think it will be a pre-spawn tournament. I don't think we'll have warm enough weather to actually trigger the spawn, but anything can happen."

Newton said he expects anglers will catch fish a variety of ways, from fishing deep with a Carolina rig or deep-diving crankbait or shallow-fishing a jig or a creature bait.

"You can catch big stringers of fish on Eufaula," Newton said. "I think it will take 16 to 17 pounds a day ... I don't think it will take a tremendous amount to win, but I could be wrong."

Anglers will take off from Lakepoint Resort State Park located at 104 Lakepoint Drive in Eufaula at 7 each morning. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday's weigh-ins will also be held at Lakepoint Resort State Park beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday's final weigh-in will be held at Billy Lawrence Chevrolet located at 3220 S. Eufaula Ave. in Eufaula beginning at 4 p.m.

Fans will be treated to a Family Fun Zone at Billy Lawrence Chevrolet prior to Saturday's weigh-in from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a drawing for a $300 Cabela's gift card and drawings for rod and reel combos will be held every 30 minutes during the event. Activities in the Family Fun Zone include a Ranger boat simulator and assorted fishing-themed games. All activities are free and open to the public.

In FLW Series competition, anglers are also vying for valuable points to qualify for the 2011 Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing.

Coverage of the Lake Eufaula tournament will be broadcast in high-definition (HD) on VERSUS. "FLW Outdoors," will air May 16 from 12:30 to 1:30 ET. "FLW Outdoors," hosted by Jason Harper, is broadcast to approximately 500 million households worldwide.
