Huron River Report
#1
The river is at its normal thaw hight stage

The water is clear nearly all the way to the bottom. This means to every one who knows, the suckers have not started their run yet.

there may be a little action down near flatrock, but there is nothing up river

I saved a worm from drowning, I was back on the huron again today, water still clear, nothing swiming about, I tossed a fly just so I could say I wet a line today. [angelic]

Ice is all but gone now off the lakes. a few plowed snow piles here and there.

The sand hill crains have been here since wensday, the peepers have been hallaring all week.

and as of today, still no sign of any suckers in the huron over by brighton recreation area.

I saw either a grey heron or a wild peacock off in a field yesterday mid-morning , too far off to tell what is was for sure .
Woke up to a half inch of snow on the ground today .
Gas prices are way up again , so I can't make another fishing trip this weekend . I will have to settle for more working on the wood pile I guess .

grey herons live in asia,

I would say what you probably saw was a sandhill crane or a great blue heron. and if it was in a feild I would say it was the sand hill crane, they can be found feeding in farmers feilds right about now.

at a distance the great blue heron and the sand hill crane can be easily mistaken for each other. but a good tell tail sign is the red cap of the sandhill crane if you are close enough to see it.

because of the similar body size and greyish color, I could see how it could bemistaken for a peahen.

I knew you ment to say great blue heron, but for our readers I wanted them to understand as well.

Well what do you know !
Here i've been calling them greys for more years than I care to remember [blush] , I hope I can break the habit of calling them greys .
The bird was too far off to make a positive identification and it was over by the old peacock farm . The old guy and his wife passed on a few years ago , D.N.R. rounded up a bunch of the birds but didn't get them all .
