Clean Marinas Citations to be Presented Wednesday, August 5

WHAT: Awards luncheon recognizing the efforts of the 11 Clean Marinas certified since last August. Secretary John Griffin will present special Citations on behalf of Governor O'Malley. Luncheon followed by an optional tour of "best practices" employed at host facility.

WHY: Since 1999 DNR has certified 115 Clean Marinas and 24 smaller facilities designated as Clean Marina Partners. These facilities voluntarily adopt best management practices, exceeding legally required permits and plans, to reduce polluted run-off into adjacent waterways. The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative is a public-private partnership developed in response to federal legislation, requiring the State to reduce "non-point source" pollution from marinas, boatyards, and recreational boats.<br />

FROM BALTIMORE: Take I-97 south until it ends at Route 50. Take Route 50 east. Take Exit #24 for Rt. 70 South/Rowe Blvd. Follow Rowe Blvd. until it ends at the State House and turn right on College Avenue. Enter Church Circle. Go right around the Circle, taking the fourth exit, Duke of Gloucester St. Stay on Duke of Gloucester until it ends at the Eastport Bridge. AYC is directly in front of you. Parking is available by turning right, crossing the drawbridge, and immediately turning into the club's annex lot.
