CARTER WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE CRAPPIE USA EVENT

This past Saturday March 21st Crappie USA held a qualifying event at the Wind Creek State Park on Lake Martin near Alexander City, Alabama. These anglers were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic to be held at Columbus, Mississippi in the fall of 2009.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the Gilbert, South Carolina team sponsored by Rebel Yell of Joe and Janette Carter with a weight of 9.07 pounds and earning $1,000.00. This is the second win in a row for the Carter Team after taking first place at Lewis Smith Lake on the 7th of March. The Carter team was fishing above the railroad in the back of a bay trolling pink/yellow and june bug colored jigs tipped with minnows in 6-20 feet deep.

Second place went to the Valley Head, Alabama team of Eric and Byron Albright with 8.42 pounds and earning $600.00. Eric and Byron were fishing around the Alexander City boat ramp vertical jigging brown jigs and minnows in 10 feet of water. Later in the morning the team switched to floats and live bait around old railroad crossties in 4 feet of water.

In third place was the Jasper, Alabama team of George Sherer Sr. and Angie Hubbard weighing in 6.76 pounds. George and Angie were longline trolling in 6-10 feet of water in the middle of the lake using black/chartreuse and blue/chartreuse jigs.

Roy Capes Jr. of Cordele, Georgia and Mike Lorenz of Crossville, Alabama took fourth place with a weight of 6.11 pounds. Roy and Mike were fishing above the railroad in the back of the bay longline trolling and pulling jigs in 2-12 feet of water. Roy and Mike caught over 100 fish during their day of competition.

Fifth place went to the Indiana team of Dallas Thomas of Elwood, Indiana and Greg Caldwell of Noblesville, Indiana with a total weight of 5.63 pounds.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was J.C. Atkins of Tallassee, Alabama and Franklin Adam Turner of Eclectic, Alabama weighing in 7.74 pounds and earning $600.00. J.C. and Franklin were fishing in Sandy Creek early catching their limit of 9 inch fish in 2-10 feet of water. The team then moved to the south end of the lake vertical jigging one pole using yellow/chartreuse TT67 jigs tipped with minnows in 3-10 feet of water. The team caught bigger fish on the south side catching over 50 fish during their day of competition.

Second place went to the Rockford, Alabama team of Darrell and Rickey Powell with a weight of 6.56 pounds and earning $400.00. Darrell and Rickey were fishing up the river in Windy Creek casting chartreuse jigs in 3-7 feet of water.

Taking third place was Harold and Ann Ingram of Macon, Georgia with a total weight of 6.45 pounds and earning $200.00. Harold and Ann were longline trolling near the Winter Crest Farms using black/blue jigs in 3-10 feet of water.
