Minnetonka, Minnesota - The Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) is headed east to take on the New York waters of Lake Erie out of Dunkirk,New York, August 21 through 23. This is the second year in a row the MWC has held a tournament out of Dunkirk and the third time in five years. "This section of the lake produces terrific fishing this time of year. All the fish that are around the islands of the Sandusky, Ohio area earlier in the year move east throughout the summer and we find some very large schools of fish in this water," shared Denis Kreze of nearby Ridgeway, Ontario. "I expect it will take about 60 pounds of fish over the two day event to win it."
This is a two day tournament that is slated for Friday, August 21st and Saturday, August 22nd as long as weather is not a factor. A "blow day" has been built into the tournament schedule in case inclement weather prohibits the teams from heading out on the water either one of those days. If an additional day is needed due to weather problems, then Sunday, August 23rd would be used as the 2nd day of the event. Tournament weigh-ins are free to attend and will run from 3:45pm - 5:00pm at the Pier at Clarion on the waterfront in Dunkirk. Stop by and cheer your favorite team on as they weigh-in each afternoon.
Anglers fish in two person teams and are allowed to weigh a limit of five fish per team per day. The team that weighs in the most pounds of fish over the two day event wins the tournament and the first place prize money of $10,150. Currently there are 45 teams registered to fish in the tournament with a total payout of $28,800 which will be distributed to the top nine places; plus another $2,400 in sponsor contingency bonus money.
The sponsor contingency bonuses are:
"¢ Ranger Cup Bonus: $1,000 to the top finishing team who fishes out of a Ranger Boat and is signed up for Ranger Cup.<br />

"¢ Lowrance HDS Bonus: $500 to the top finishing team who uses a Lowrance HDS (High Definition System) sonar/chartplotter display unit during the tournament.<br />
"¢ Oxygenator Bonus: $200 to the top finishing team who uses a Pro Livewell Flush Mount or Livewell Portable oxygenation system during the tournament.<br />

The top five teams from the East Division will be honored with a plaque, additional prize money and a slot in the 2010 Championship. Currently the five teams are:

The City of Dunkirk and the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club will be assisting with tournament operations including set-up and tear down of the site, inspections and launch in the mornings and weigh-ins during the afternoon. "We are excited to have the MWC back again this year. The anglers come in and have so much appreciation for the work put in to make this event happen," shared site coordinator, Al Zurawski. "The community really supports this tournament and the anglers put on a good show with the fish they bring up on stage."
Each MWC entry fee includes a $15 donation to the local walleye conservation fund. This money is given to the community or walleye club to use towards fishery enhancement projects. The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club in Dunkirk, NY will receive the money from this tournament to use towards enhancing the fishing on Lake Erie and its tributaries. Throughout the last 25 years, the Masters Walleye Circuit has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to local communities to help improve their fisheries.
