FUTURE FISHERMAN FOUNDATION CONTINUES RESURGENCE
#1
Oak Hill, Virginia-As the beginning of summer draws near the Future Fisherman Foundation is busier than ever. On the heels of a recent organizational transition, the Foundation has exciting fishing and conservation activities happening all across the country!

The Foundations' Physh Ed National Fishing and Boating initiative has engaged over 14,000 students in fishing and boating activities since the start of the school year in September 2008. Teachers from across the country are getting their students outside and engaging in a little friendly competition. Zemmer Jr. High and Hahn Middle School in Lapeer and neighboring Davidson, Michigan, recently hosted a fishing competition between schools. Students rallied their families to wake up early on a Saturday to get outside and to catch some fresh air and fish! Hahn Middle School came out on top this year, but Zemmer Jr. High is looking forward to their chance to win next year at this annual tournament between school districts.

To make it easier for school aged youth to continue their angling education this summer, the Foundation has developed a new handbook. The Fishing Is Simple Handbookis a colorful, interactive resource that provides young anglers with basic fishing knowledge they can use on their next adventure. The booklet is unique in that it is bilingual, providing both English and Spanish language interpretations in one comprehensive source. Over 30,000 copies of the booklet have been distributed to state organizations across the country. The Foundation has additional copies for sale to assist community groups, summer camps and fishing clubs looking for angling resources.

In addition to program support, the Foundation continues to seek financial support and develop new partnerships. Recently, the Foundation received generous donations from Big Rock Sports, Fisherman's Wholesale, Sea Striker International LLC, Dick Smith's Life Bait & Tackle, and Frabill Inc. "We are proud to support the Foundation and their important mission to provide long term angling education opportunities for our youth." Said Gary Zurn, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Big Rock Sports.

"We are very grateful for the generous support of our partners and donors and are very excited about the opportunities this support creates for youth angling activities across the country. Our supporters recognize that fishing is an affordable activity the whole family can enjoy even in these difficult economic times. We are continuing to seek additional support from individuals and organizations that share our mission to create opportunities for children to experience the joys of fishing and boating", saidfoundation Executive Director Anne Danielski.

Over the past 20 years, the foundation has created over one million conservation minded young anglers through creative programs and partnerships such as the mentor-based Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs program; the school-based Physh Ed angling and boating education program; and after school fishing programs with the Boys & Girls Clubs. These programs are unique in that they offer more than a one day introductory experience. By providing a series of classroom and outdoor sessions, youth receive in depth experiences which facilitate development of our future conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts.
