As Boaters Escape Heat, Marina Runs Out Of Gas
Marina Worker Says More People Taking To Water

POSTED: 7:25 pm EDT July 7, 2010

GLASTONBURY, Conn. -- As Connecticut residents take to the water to escape the heat, one marina along the Connecticut River has run out of gas.

Workers at the Seaboard Marina in Glastonbury said it was so busy over the weekend, that it ran out of fuel, something they said hasn't happened in years.

Mike Buenavista of the Seaboard Marina said he topped off his 4,000-gallon gas tank on Friday. He said that by Monday, the tank was empty.

"I ran out of gas! It's a good thing," Buenavista said.

It may have been an inconvenience for boaters, but Buenavista said it's a sign that things are changing for the better. Buenavista said he's noticed changes at marinas up and down the Connecticut River.

Seaboard Marina has already sold 30 boats this summer, more than what they sold all last year. Buenavista said the slips are 90 percent full as opposed to being not even half-full in 2009.
