Pine Island Sound

This past week has been a windy one with more wind and bad weather on the way for the weekend. Even with the wind the fishing has been good this week. Early mornings have been good on the outside, running the beach for Spanish Mackerel. When the wind is blowing from the northeast or east the beach can be a good place to fish. Some of the schools Spanish also have had some nice Bluefish mixed in as well. When they are smacking bait on the surface, just about any fly or artificial will work.

The Redfish have been hitting jigs pretty hard on the start of the incoming tides. I have been fishing waters that are 4 – 5 feet deep that run right up on a flat. Most of the fish seem to be in the exposed areas even with the 20-knot winds. One section that gave up 4 snook yesterday was full of lunker Trout today. The biggest was 29”s. The Redfish have also been very aggressive, with several fish chasing a jig at one time. Today we landed 4 Reds and 3 of them were over the slot. My best colors have been pumpkin seed and watermelon with a red fleck pattern.

http://www.flyfish-florida.com
