Hunters who bought their hunting or sporting license via computer must go to the MassOutdoors website (www.mass.gov/massoutdoors) to apply for their antlerless deer permit. Hunters with licenses purchased at a license vendor will find their permit application attached to their license. Fill it out (and include your name) and send it to the Westborough address on the back. Applications must be postmarked by July 16, 2010 or hand-delivered to the Westborough Field Headquarters by 4:30PM on that date. Applications postmarked or delivered after July 16 will not be accepted.

July 21 --Wildlife Habitat Management Tour, Phillipston. Interested people are reminded they can join professional foresters and wildlife biologists from the Department of Fish and Game's Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) on an informative evening tour from 6:30PM - 8:30 PM at the Division's Phillipston Wildlife Management Area where they will explain and discuss state wildlife habitat management practices. Meet at the Templeton General Store located at the intersection of Routes 101, 2A, and Baldwinville Road. Carpooling to the tour location is encouraged. Please wear sturdy footwear and bring insect repellant. The young forest habitat created at this site benefits several declining bird species such as Brown thrasher, Blue-winged warbler, and White-throated sparrow, all of which depend on this type of habitat.

Families of all kinds are welcome to this experience to be held on August 7-8, 2010 at the Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover. Several skill sessions will be offered to participants: canoeing, fishing, hiking, and archery. A night hike, campfire and other optional activities will also be available for all to participate. This workshop is being coordinated by the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife's Becoming and Outdoorswoman Program and the Department of Conservation & Recreation. Space is limited so register early. Sign Up For The Young Adult Pheasant Hunt--Young people ages 12-17 years old who are interested in pheasant hunting and have successfully graduated from a Basic Hunter Education course should contact sportsmen's clubs offering the Young Adult Pheasant Hunt Program. This program was developed by the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife to provide an opportunity for young adults to practice firearms safety, develop shooting skills, and participate in a special pheasant hunt with a safe, experienced hunter in a friendly environment. It is a comprehensive three part outdoor recreation program which includes a day of shooting practice, a "dress rehearsal" pre-hunt and a day for the actual pheasant hunt. Shooting instruction and practice take place during the summer or early fall. The pre-hunt workshop is usually held a week or two before the young adult pheasant hunt. The actual hunt will be scheduled for a Saturday prior to the October start of the regular pheasant hunting season. More details and a link to clubs who have already notified the Division of their intent to offer this program can be found at: www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/education/yaph/yaph_home.htm.
