Antique Lures
#1
Hi,
I have been collecting antique lures for five years. I am interesting in talking to collectors. To me this is an important part of conserving the idea of by gone days. Lures were the difference between going hungry and eating to the early people of this country. whether to put a live critter on a hook or a hunk of wood with a hook in it was a unique idea. I am a member of the NFLCC and will answer any quistions or help in identifying any lures you have. I also buy lures at fair collectors rates.

Welcome and thanks for the offer of answering Q's. Always useful have someone with a collector's background on the board and I know at times I get Q's here or elsewhere on exactly this topic.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Moderator Lures/Baits Forum
http://www.demonjigs.com

Thor,
The"Dalton Special" lures you have were invented back in the "1920"s by a guy named Phillip Porter Dalton of Tampa, Florida. After he carved a few of the critters his friends wanted one. He realized that he had a good thing going, but could not keep up with the demand for em. Around the 1930s he got the Shakespeare company to make them for him, but they retained the Dalton Special name. He got mad at the company around 1942 because of a disagreement with a design change and quit the company. He then went to the Florida Fishing Tackle company and sold his lure under the Barracuda Brand name. A few plastic ones were made but did not work well, so most are wood now. Through my research I believe the company is now in Clearwater Florida, and called Marine Metal Products. This company retains the Dalton Special Tradmark. Prices are as follows, but remember its all relative, condition, and original marked boxes are a factor in price. Shakespeare Dalton special $20-30.00
Plastic Dalton $15-20.00
Dalton Twist $20-30.00.
Hope this helps some and if you would like to send a picture I would appreciate it. Always like looking at the old memories.
