October pike fishing
#1
I took a break from lake trout over the weekend to go chase pike in one of our well known mountain lakes. Started about 10 AM Saturday, just cruising the shallow weedy bays to see what I could see. What I saw were pike, lazily cruising the 4-10' weedy flats in the 57 degree water. I threw a number of jerkbaits and had follows, and lookers, but no biters until I put on a 7" floating Rapala. That sealed the deal on a fat 39" fish. I didn't weigh it before releasing it, but I'm guessing it was somewhere in the 15-17 lb range. Made the trip worthwhile!
