WILDLIFE COMMISSIONERS HOST PUBLIC MEETING IN GRANBY TO DISCUSS WINDY GAP FIRMING PROJECT
#1
GRANBY, Colo. - Colorado Wildlife Commissioners Dennis Buechler and Allan Jones will be holding a public meeting in Granby to hear concerns from the public on the potential impacts of the proposed Windy Gap Firming Project. The meeting will be held at the Inn at Silver Creek (62927 US Highway 40) on Thursday, October 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The meeting is open to any member of the public who wishes to attend.

The Windy Gap Firming Project is a proposal from Northern Water Conservancy District, the largest water provider in northern Colorado, that would improve the reliability of Northern's distribution system. If approved, the project will enable the District to store available water in a new Front Range reservoir to ensure reliable, or "firm," future deliveries. The project is undergoing a federal environmental review and the Colorado Wildlife Commission anticipates providing input to the review process once all potential impacts are identified.

While Wildlife Commissioners are typically available any time to discuss issues, from time to time they hold more formal meetings around the regions they represent. These meetings give the Commissioners the opportunity to visit with constituents about issues which may affect wildlife, such as the Windy Gap Firming Project. Division of Wildlife staff members will attend the Granby meeting to help answer questions or provide additional information.

The Colorado Wildlife Commission is an eleven-member board appointed by the governor. The Commission sets Colorado Division of Wildlife regulations and policies for hunting, fishing, watchable wildlife, and non-game, threatened and endangered species. Commissioners also oversee Division of Wildlife land purchases and property regulations.
