DENVER, Colo. -- Commissioners Bob Streeter and David Brougham will meet with the public on Wednesday, October 13 at The Ranch in Loveland to hear their comments on the potential impacts of the Windy Gap Firming Project.
The Windy Gap Firming Project would construct a new water storage reservoir that would provide more reliable water deliveries to Front Range and West Slope communities and industry from the existing Windy Gap Project. Current Windy Gap facilities are unable to deliver the firm yield of water that was originally anticipated due to the limitations and constraints of the existing system. The desired condition is to add water storage and related facilities to existing Windy Gap operations capable of delivering a firm annual yield of about 30,000 AF to project participants. Commissioner Streeter, who represents northern and northeastern Colorado and the public at large, is a retired wildlife professional and lives in eastern Larimer County. He represents the Colorado Wildlife Commission on the Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) board and is a representative to the South Platte Basin Roundtable (which includes the Republican Basin). He has an agricultural background and is an avid outdoor enthusiast, hunter and fisherman. Commissioner Brougham is an attorney based in Denver, primarily involved in defending public entities and officials. He is a lifelong hunter and fisherman and was appointed by Governor Ritter to represent the public at-large. As a military officer he was a naval aviator and is a Vietnam veteran. In addition, he was a chief deputy district attorney in both the Second and Fourteenth Judicial Districts and a member of the Colorado District Attorney's Council. Mr. Brougham is a member of numerous associations, including Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and the American College of Trial Lawyers. Ken Kehmeier, senior aquatic biologist for the northeast region, will provide a presentation on the project and lend his expertise to the discussion.
