ENTERPRISE, Ore. - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding anglers that fall chinook fishing on the Snake River ends Oct. 31, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. Anglers will still be able to harvest fin-clipped hatchery steelhead through April 30, 2011.
The fall chinook fishery was the first in recent history, and was opened in response to record returns of fall chinook crossing Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River. Despite the large return, creel reports conducted by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game estimate only 200 fish have been caught to date. The fishery opened Sept. 1.<br />
"We were hoping the large return would translate into more anglers catching fish, but just being able to offer the opportunity to Oregon anglers was exciting", said Jeff Yanke, ODFW district fish biologist in Enterprise.<br />

CORVALLIS, Ore.- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Fish Restoration and Enhancement Board will meet on Fri., Nov. 5 at the ODFW Corvallis Office, 7118 NE Vandenberg, Corvallis.<br />
The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The agenda includes an R&E Program budget and administrative update, Board elections, review of new project proposals and other program business.<br />
The meeting is open to the public, as is a field trip to view local R&E projects on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. Members of the public joining the tour must provide their own transportation. For more information on the field trip, contact R&E Program staff at (503) 947-6232.<br />
Created by the Oregon Legislature in 1989, the Fish Restoration and Enhancement Program is funded by a surcharge on sport and commercial fishing licenses and commercial poundage fees. The program's seven-member citizen board reviews fish restoration and enhancement project proposals and makes funding recommendations to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission.<br />
Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or large-print materials.
