Leaburg Hatchery to host Family Outdoor Day on July 17
#1
SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is encouraging families to hunt, fish and explore at an open house at Leaburg Hatchery on Saturday, July 17.

The Family Outdoor Day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities including fly casting, fish and animal identification, archery, outdoor cooking and fishing demonstrations. The event is free and no pre-registration is required.

"We'd like families to come and enjoy the great recreational resources our hatcheries and wildlife areas offer," said Shahab Farzanegan, ODFW angling education coordinator. "For this event we wanted to highlight some of the skills offered through our ODFW Outdoors classes and workshops."

ODFW Outdoors encompasses all hunting, fishing, and outdoor skills educational programs.

Many of the day's events will be held adjacent to the Leaburg Hatchery's new Aquatic Education Park, which features an interpretive stream-side trail, casting pond and picnic area.

Leaburg Hatchery is 26 miles north of Springfield. There will be no parking at the hatchery the day of the open house. Instead, visitors should park at the Leaburg ball field, which is located near the fire station on Leaburg Drive, about two miles from the hatchery. A shuttle to and from the hatchery will run throughout the day.
