DAVIDSON, NC—Three people were recently hospitalized after a boat jumped from North Carolina's Lake Norman and hit a car on Interstate 77.
Officials with the North Carolina Highway Patrol say the boat was speeding across Lake Norman around 2:20 a.m. when it went airborne. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
The patrol says the boat traveled out of the water up onto I-77, clearing the fog line guard rails, and struck a southbound vehicle. The boat landed in the median and flipped over while the car pulled to the shoulder.
At press time, two of the boaters were listed in critical condition.
