Family Fishing Nights Program Returns in May

LINCOLN, Neb. - Family Fishing Nights has expanded for its third summer of outdoor fun, with more events than ever before, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Nebraska's Youth Fishing Program is sponsoring Family Fishing Nights, which is is an opportunity for people of all ages who have never fished or have not fished in years to learn and enjoy the activity.

Rods and reels, as well as bait and fishing instruction, will be available for free. Appropriate fishing and park permits are required.

The 2011 Family Fishing Nights schedule (events are from 6-8 p.m. unless otherwise noted):

May

1 - Youngman Lake, Omaha, 2-4 p.m.; 4 - Terry's Pit, Scottsbluff; 31 - Holmes Lake, Lincoln.

June

1 - Benson Park Pond, Omaha; 4 - Yanney Lake, Kearney, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; 5 - Mormon Island Lake No. 2, Grand Island, 12-4 p.m.; 7 - Halleck Park Lake, Papillion; 8 - Bowling Lake, Lincoln; 14 - Pawnee Park East, Columbus; 15 - Skyview Lake, Norfolk; 16 - Youngman Lake, Omaha; 21 - Holmes Lake, Lincoln; 22 - Walnut Creek Lake, Papillion; 25 - Pawnee Lake, Emerald, Carp-O-Rama, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; 28 - Cunningham Lake, Omaha.

July

12 - Bowling Lake, Lincoln; 13 - Halleck Park Lake, Papillion; 18 - Interstate 80 Lake, North Platte; 19 - Cottonmill Lake, Kearney; 20 - Mormon Island Lake No. 2, Grand Island; 27 - Holmes Lake, Lincoln; 28 - Benson Park Pond, Omaha.
