Waterbury, VT -- If you love to fish and want to pass on the fishing tradition to children and their families, consider becoming a Vermont"Let's Go Fishing" Volunteer Instructor. Instructors in the "Let's Go Fishing" Program organize and volunteer at fishing clinics in their communities to teach successful fishing techniques and ethical attitudes to Vermont's future anglers.
The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is offering an instructor training for volunteers on Saturday, March 19, at the Kehoe Education Center in Castleton, Vermont. Participants will learn what it takes to teach a clinic including fishing techniques, ethics, fish ecology and management, and tackle craft. Classes are informal, and it is not necessary to have a high level of fishing expertise to become an instructor. Teachers of all grade levels are especially invited to learn how to use "Let's Go Fishing" in their curriculum from elementary through high school.
Fish and Wildlife will provide instruction, assistance and curriculum materials. There is no charge for the training, and meals will be provided. The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
Last year, more than 1,400 Vermont children and their families took part in "Let's Go Fishing" clinics across the state. People just like you organized these events in conjunction with community organizations and taught fishing to a whole new generation.
