HUDDLESTON, Virginia - The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Smith Mountain Lake March 26 for the first of five stops in the Shenandoah Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"There will be a lot more jig fishing going on at this tournament than there was at the last one," said Castrol pro David Dudley of Lynchburg, Va. "Last tournament there were a lot of guys primarily using jerkbaits. It will be reversed next weekend and anglers should plan to do a lot more jig fishing using jerkbaits as a secondary choice.
"Docks are going to be key," Dudley added. "I would plan to fish fast and thoroughly and hit as many docks as possible. Water temperatures have warmed up to the mid-50s, so that will help the bite as well. It should take about 20 to 21 pounds to win."
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Parkway Marina located at 16918 Smith Mountain Lake Pkwy. in Huddleston, Va. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
