Lure For X-Mas Present
#1
Hi everybody. My husband wants me to buy him yet another lure for Christmas this year. This one is called the hover lure or something like that. It seems like every year there's some "new lure I need to get honey" and every year it seems that he tries it out for a while and then it gets put up. This year I decided to be a bit more "proactive" and ask his buddies if they had this lure or if they were going to buy one. It turns out that none of them had ever heard of it before. When I asked my husband about it he said he saw a guy testing it and he gave him his card with a website address. So I went to the website and it looks ok. My husband swears up and down that it's worth the money. I'm starting to get a bit leary of these new lures he's always wanting to spend all this money on. So I guess what I'm asking is has anyone ever heard of it and if so is it worth buying? I want to get my husband what he wants for Christmas this year but I also want to make sure he's going to be happy with it too.

Thanks for any help,

Beckie

Welcome to the board Becky and you have raised some important Q's.

Even so, many seasoned anglers would probably ask you and or the hubby. what fish he plans to target with his "new" Lure and how e.g. boat, land, inshore, offshore and so on.

The more detail fed back to here the better.

Then a wealth of anglers and their experience are in a much better position to comment and leave you with a number of informed choices.

Having said that, I like many anglers, still have a large tackle box and number of lures for a number of fishing scenario's.

We look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

Becky

While the choice is yours, there are many simple bass lures or jigs that will do well on this species. While it looks to me like a mechano set for anglers, I would prefer something much more uncomplicated knowing that Bass are likewise..

I am aslo assuming tha dragon flies in the US are like those anywhere else. Only around for a limited - seasonal period - of time.

So the Q is "what do the bass and the angler eat/use the rest of time?"

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

Well, I first would like to thank everyone here that has given me so much great information and opinions about this dilemma over whether or not I should purchase a Hover Lure for my husband for Christmas. I posted to this board as well as others in order to gather as much information as possible. I also recently contacted the people who make the Hover Lure and spoke with them about some of the concerns that were raised by people about it. The main thing I tried to find out about is whether they were going to be around or like a lot of people said they were a "advertise, take your money and run" type of company. They have actually been in business for a year and a half and the man whose idea this was has been working on it for 6 years now. My husband is not exactly the handiest person in the world. (Last year's nightmare of him trying to put some bookshelves together comes to mind.) They assured me that when he fishes the lure, that it was an easy three-step process that even a child could do. The last thing I asked about was the concern about not being able to fish it except in specific locations and only during part of the year. They agreed with me on this point and basically said, "Yes, well this is made to be fished in weedy areas without having to worry about snags like with other lures." So, I took what they told me and what you guys told me and decided that some other people were right about what I should do. If this is what my husband really wants, and he still assures me he does, then I am going to make him happy and get it for him. I know that I could have reached the same conclusion without going through all this hassle but at least now I can make it feeling a little more assured that he will be truly happy with it. I want to thank you all again for your help and opinions. I will also try to get my husband on here someday and let you all know how it worked out. (Bad or Good)

Happy Holidays,

Beckie

Thanks for those dates and the link Mike.

Will review them shortly although I am not hopeful given that we have a big 2002 coming up already by all accounts.

Will let you know either way. Not sure what Jeff is rolling out. He just dropped me a brief note asking if I thought I would make ot over to the Show in 2002.

I also left a message for all concerned at the Mod's board.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

Beckie,
What a great Idea! Ask the fisherman on the tackle board.
You have some excellent advice here.
The first thing you must always remember about buying a lure is that it will never hit the water unless it hooks the fisherman first. That is a fisherman will put his/her money down to buy it.
I have not yet seen this lure and I always prefer something that is alive to tempt fish with. (I must be honest I don't catch many fish)
Maybe your husband is really just caught up in the excitement of seeing and having a new fishing toy. Just like me when I see a train at a toy train show. If I buy the train I "play with it" and then it goes with my other trains in the "collection".
I have not yet seen this lure but if it is not over $15.00 buy it and just think of it as the lunch you didn't have.

J.
